During the Sami Church Days from June 27–29, a vibrant and diverse market will take place right next to the Northern Lights Cathedral in Alta. On Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28, both participants and locals can explore a rich selection of local food, Sami handicrafts, and design from Sápmi.
Here, you can discover traditional and modern handicrafts, enjoy locally sourced food, and take part in a lively community atmosphere. The market is open to everyone—whether you are registered for the Sami Church Days or simply want to experience the unique atmosphere.
Food from the Region – A Taste of Sápmi
We want both visitors and locals to experience the rich flavors of Alta and the surrounding areas. Therefore, we invite food producers from Northern Troms, Inner Finnmark, Western Finnmark, and Eastern Finnmark to participate.
🔹 Sell your products to a broad audience! Participants at the Sami Church Days come primarily from Norway, Sweden, and Finland, but also from other countries.
🔹 A sustainable food experience: We encourage vendors to also offer food that can be enjoyed on-site. Fire pits will be available in the lavvo in the church park in the heart of Alta for warming food.
🔹 Free stand space!
Sami Handicrafts Market – Tradition and Innovation
The market will also serve as an arena for duodji (Sami handicrafts) and Sami design. We invite both traditional artisans and contemporary designers to participate, ensuring the market reflects both historical and innovative expressions of Sami craftsmanship.
🔹 Who can participate?
- Artisans and designers from across Sápmi.
- Products that meet duodji quality standards or are self-produced/designed by a Sami creator.
- Products that do not represent cultural appropriation.
🔹 Free stand space!
Welcome as a Guest!
Not a food producer or an artisan? You are warmly welcome as a guest!
The market is open on Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28, offering a unique experience filled with meaningful encounters, languages, traditions, and cultures in harmony. The area around the Northern Lights Cathedral will be bustling with life, extending to the town square, the Art Association, the library, and Alta Cinema.
📅 The program will be launched in March! Stay updated on our website for exciting news about participants from various countries, church communities, and traditions.
