Parish priest Bernt Olaus Christian Grønvold initiated the building process in 1896. The church was originally classified as a chapel and it was inaugurated on September 18, 1907 after a construction period of five years. Gulsrud women's association was an important contributor and owned the church until 1992.
On the night of October 3, 1930, the church building burned down after being set on fire. The current Gulsrud church is built of wood and seats approx. 140 people. The current church was designed by architect Sverre Poulsen and inaugurated by Bishop Johan Lunde on November 25, 1931. The outsideof the church has reinforced plaster to give the impression of being a stone church.
The altarpiece is painted by Anders A. Kongsrud from Modum and is a copy of J. M. F. Heinrich Hoffmann's «Jesus as a 12-year-old in the temple». This corresponds well with the fact that young people often gather in the church. A nearby campsite regularly houses upcoming confirmants. «Come every age, hear the Lord call» is the inscription on the church bells here at Gulsrud church.
